Why a Business Website Still Matters When You Have Social Media
It's a fair question. If customers already find you on Instagram or Facebook, why spend money on a website as well?
The honest answer is that social platforms are rented space. The algorithm decides who sees your posts, the platform can change its rules overnight, and an account can be suspended, hacked or lost entirely — through no fault of your own. A website is the one digital asset a business actually owns.
A website also does things social media isn't built for: it can hold detailed information about your services, work as a proper enquiry channel, and give search engines something to index so people can find you when they aren't already following you.
None of this means social media isn't valuable — it clearly is, for reach and engagement. But it works best alongside a website you control, not instead of one.
If your business currently relies on a social profile as its only online presence, that's a reasonable place to start from — and a reasonable point to build outward from when you're ready.
